Who is God? Part 1 November 10, 2015

I am a child of God. I love the Lord. His will is my desire. My life’s purpose is to serve Him. But in order to do that, I must understand WHO He is. This is my journey through studying who God is, who Jesus is, along with the cornerstones of my faith and what it is to be a CHRISTian. 100% Biblically based.

 {Psalm 139}

He is all- knowing.
 Psalm 139:1-5 says,
 “O Lord, you have examined my heart
   and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
   You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel
   and when I rest at home.
   You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say
   even before I say it, Lord.
You go before me and follow me.
   You place your hand of blessing on my head.”

God is all-knowing!! He knows our hearts, our secrets, our thoughts and what we are going to say before we speak it. He leads us and is right behind us. We are covered in Him.

David continues in verse 6 to say,

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
   too great for me to understand!”

I am right there with you David! My little mind can’t wrap itself around this truth. And if I could, there would be room for doubt, “If God were small enough for your minds, He wouldn’t be big enough for your needs”.

2 Corinthians 13:12, Paul writes,
 “Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror,
but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.
All that I know now is partial and incomplete,
but then I will know everything completely,
just as God now knows me completely.”

 We are P R O M I S E D that everything about God and His character will be made perfectly clear to us, one day! And in the mean time, everything we need to know about Him is written in His word.

Verses 7-18 confirm that He is ever-present.
“I can never escape from your Spirit!
   I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
   if I go down to the grave, you are there.
If I ride the wings of the morning,
   if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
   even there your hand will guide me,
   and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me
   and the light around me to become night—
   but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
   Darkness and light are the same to you.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
   and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
   Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
   as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
   Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
   before a single day had passed.
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
   They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
   they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
   you are still with me!”

 {REPEAT}
verses 17&18

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
They cannot be numbered!
I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!”

 He is with us, always, ever-present. He knows what we think, before we think it. He created us in our mother’s womb, in absolute seclusion. He saw us before we were born. Every day of our lives are recorded in the book of life.

W O W.

In the quiet; in your heart, in your mind, in the thoughts you are too embarrassed to admit. He is present. When you say or do something that you struggle to forgive yourself for, He is present. In the laughter, in the tears, in the sorrow and joy, He is present. And His thoughts are precious for you, so precious that they cannot be numbered. And regardless of yesterday, when we wake-up, He is still with us.

Verses 19-24 confirm that He is all-powerful.
 “O God, if only you would destroy the wicked!
   Get out of my life, you murderers!
They blaspheme you;
   your enemies misuse your name.
O Lord, shouldn’t I hate those who hate you?
   Shouldn’t I despise those who oppose you?
Yes, I hate them with total hatred,
   for your enemies are my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
   test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
   and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

This is the Lord’s infinite knowledge and universal presence. He knows our every thought, word, act, nothing is hid from Him.

{P R A Y E R}
verses 24, 25

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
   test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
   and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

Meditate on this prayer as you continue to grow in Jesus and have a more intimate relationship with the God of the universe, who knows every intimate detail of His creation.
